International ICT Expo 2012 – “IPv6 Keeps the Internet Growing” Seminar “IPv6 Keeps the Internet Growing” SeminarInternet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) was the main method by which IP addresses were assigned on the Internet. However, the Internet has become completely saturated thanks to its explosive growth and the sheer number of devices needing to access it. IPv4 provides only a limited number of IP addresses (about 4.3 billion) but IPv6 can accommodate virtually unlimited IPs.Find out more about:– The current state of the Internet and the issue of IPv4 exhaustion – What is IPv6 and is it the only solution? – What are the benefits of IPv6? – What cool new innovations are being introduced with IPv6? – How to be IPv6 ready? What to do if you don’t have IPv6 now? Date: April 15, 2012 (Sun) Time: 3:00 – 4:00pm Venue: Seminar Room, Halls 3F-G, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, 1 Expo Drive, Wan Chai, Hong Kong (Harbour Road Entrance) Language: Cantonese

NEWS INDEPTH: Internet upgrade ‘critical’ (EJ Insight)Apr 9, 2012Government agencies and corporate enterprises in Hong Kong must strive to create public awareness about the next-generation internet address standard to ensure sustained growth in data traffic in the virtual world, an expert said.Pointing to the need to migrate to the Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) platform, Charles Mok, founding chairman of the Hong Kong chapter of the Internet Society, said an upgrade from the current protocol is critical for continued growth of the internet as IPv4 addresses will be fully allocated by October 2014. IPv6 transition – Where’s Hong Kong headed? (Telecomasia.net) Mar 29, 2012 The internet is facing the biggest upheaval since its creation over 20 years ago – the switchover to IPv6. To stay regionally and globally competitive, Hong Kong businesses of all sizes need to get familiar with the technology and start planning their transition. Yet all the evidence indicates that few HK businesses have plans to make the leap to IPv6, and it highlights a worryingly laissez-faire attitude to IPv6 transitioning among organizations which we’re aiming to address with our “IPv6 in Action” plan. This initiative, undertaken with the help of the HKSAR government, features a series of educational materials including a dedicated trilingual web site , consumer guide, seminars for key stakeholders and much more for Hong Kong SMEs and consumers. Host: Bryan Curtis Speaker: Charles Mok, Founding Chairman and Head of “IPv6 In Action” Campaign, Internet Society Hong Kong
Radio Program Overview: IPv6 has been gaining awareness and stirring concerns among the business environment on the “end of the Internet”. The chit-chat session discussed what exactly “IPv4 exhaustion” is and what the government is doing to educate the general public and businesses to take action now to enable IPv6 to ensure the Internet keep expanding. Key messages discussed: – The Internet is not going to an end, but it is going to a new chapter.
–
IPv6 will provide 3.4 x1038 addresses available to keep the Internet running. – Asia Pacific is the first to run out of IPv4 addresses.
– The systems and equipment of the Internet need to be upgraded to IPv6-ready, and ISP needs to support and provide IPv6 service.
– Internet Society Hong Kong, with the support of the HKSAR Government, is promoting IPv6 awareness among the general public and SMEs.
– If Internet users are not taking action now, the Internet will stop expanding when IPv4 addresses run out.

IT pro: SMS authentication stalls Hong Kong CE polling Website (Computer World Hong Kong) Mar 26, 2012 The badly-designed authentication process could be a reason behind the stalled online poll for Hong Kong’s Chief Executive last Friday, said Charles Mok, founding chairman of Internet Society Hong Kong. The blackout also delayed the voting process at the physical voting centers. Speech by Mr. Victor Lam, Deputy Government Chief Information Officer, at the ‘Promoting NGI / IPv6 Development in Education Technical Seminar’ – Chinese Only [副政府資訊科技總監林偉喬先生於「促進 NGI/IPv6 技術在教育界推行及使用研討會」之致辭全文] Office of the Government Chief Information Officer Mar 9, IPv6 。Read More How Anonymous plans to use DNS as a weapon (Ars Technica) Mar 8, 2012 After engaging in a recent rash of attacks in retaliation for the takedown of file-sharing site Megaupload, the Anonymous denial of service “cannons” have been firing considerably fewer shells of late.
